ABOUT THE DANCE COMPANY "ALKORA"
Background history
"After several years of travelling and learning in Venezuela, North Africa, The Canary Islands and London I returned to my native land of Navarra north Spain to develop the dance and music project named ALKORA. Thanks to my musical bent I endeavoured to learn as much as I could musically from every place I visited.

In South America I learned to feel latin music and it's place in the life there, Similarly with the percussion styles from the African coast. I worked with Latin & Brazilian musicians as well as African actors and dancers. I learned to understand theatre as an artform united with music and dance.
In Pamplona I spent 4 years working in theatre with T.E.N. and I got to know and work with the Flamenco instructors Carlos Itoiz and Javier Ruz who introduced me to flamenco. My musical influences include Afro, Latin, latin jazz, and AfroCuban (not forgetting my rock, sinphonic and Jazz roots).
I got to know and work with many Jazz & Flamenco musicians from Navarra, directing for two years jam sessions in Pamplona.(A habitual practise in America & Europe but at that time little known here). I raised the bar and developed the idea of mixing cultures and styles that could be translated and moulded from improvised sessions and concerts in small bars to larger stages like theatres and open air shows".
"When I met Ana in 1996 we began to produce shows together looking for a dance style based on our cumulative knowledge and the most natural and pure of body movements. From here we have evolved, step by step, stengthening our aims, maturing as artists and learning from the daily trials of creating and selling an origional work that doesn't fit into the mould of known dance styles. On this path with our hope and efforts, little by little ALKORA has met with new inspiration, talent and energy that compliments our goals".
"In 2004 we decided to form the Cultural Associacion ALKORA. Our objectives fanned out to a world of cultural possibilities allowing us to work with other like-minded artists. We now encompass a diverse group of artists of wide cultural & artistic experience: African, Afro-Cuban, Latin and contemporary dance, percussion from Africa, Latin America, Cuba & the Vasque country. Also a wealth of Jazz & flamenco experience".

"I feel our aspirations as a company are gaining weight and this reflects in the shows we produce, something that doesn't go unnoticed. ALKORA has a lot to show and we continue to express it with hope & desire".
